Maxitone Sculptress Chocolate Protein Shakes

Now that I'm actually getting my exercise regime going I've decided to try some protein shakes.  Being a little naive I simply did a google search and bought the first one I found that didn't look too 'manly'.

Maxitone have a few different ranges and I was torn between the 'Sculptress' range and the 'Definity' range.  From what I can understand Sculptress is designed for weight loss and Definity for toning so I opted for the Sculptress range for now.  These are designed to be meal replacement drinks and the website suggests that you have 2 a day, some fruit and one balanced meal for either lunch or dinner.  I personally feel a bit cheated when I try and substitute a drink in place of a meal and so I have only being having these 2 or 3 times a week when I'm in too much of a hurry to have breakfast.

I'm completely new to protein shakes and in the past dismissed them as in my mind they seem a bit artificial and somehow only meant for big bodybuilder type men but on a whim I've decided to give it a go.  I've done some more research since this purchase and it seems as though you can also buy whey protein powders that have fewer calories but taste pretty nasty.  I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised by the taste of this Maxitone shake.  It is a tiny bit powdery and synthetic tasting - obviously nothing like a nice dairy shake made with milk - but on the whole it's not too bad at all and very drinkable.

Per serving each drink has 209 cals, 16.6 grams of protein and 6.4 grams of fat.  I think the main thing to keep in mind is that this is designed as a meal replacement and I must try to resist having one of these as well as my normal breakfast.  So far I have found that these are quite filling, if I have a shake at 9am I'm not tempted to snack or pick at anything else until lunch.  I have no idea if this will actually help me lose weight and tone up but it's worth a try and a nice tasting drink if nothing else.

I bought my shaker and powder online at Boots.700g powder £24.99 and the shaker £4.99 but I believe some flavours are on offer at the moment and I just missed out.
